Noticed a little dot on my pictures today. First i hopes it was on the lens, but the dot didnt dissapear after i changed the lens. I read on this forum and in the manual about CCD cleaning. Its actually quite easier than it sounds.
I looked on the CCD and with a normal q-tip I removed what I could see with my eye. Very simple. I think Im gonna get a cleaning kit for a "whipe-over" in the future.

I've used a Q-tip with lens paper wrapped around it for an emergency cleaner when something got too mucked up to live with while on a trip. I've decided to invest in the sensor brush, though. It doesn't require carrying alcohol, which is getting hard to do with the airline restrictions.

I definitely would'nt use a Q tip , it could leave hairs as well as smears on your CCD , much better to use the pec pads or as Toms mentioned the more expensive sensor brush .

I agree, Brian; not a good idea unless the sensor is seriously screwed up, which (unfortunately) mine has gotten to be a couple of times. I usually use the home-made spatula, pec-pads, and Everclear (ethanol) for the S2, but I'm kind of on the fence about that with the D2X, and you can't travel easily with the alcohol as I said. I'm hoping the brush works well--it's certainly expensive enough!

Can you still buy Everclear in NJ? It's been banned in PA. I'l buy a half gallon next time I head to the beach!

Since I don't use it for anything but cleaning (I prefer Pernod, wine, single-malt, good old rum, etc. for traditional missions) mine has lasted over a year, so I don't know if it's still sold, Crabby. Worth a try! However, a gallon would either outfit you as the forum's standard for CCD cleaning, or equip you for other Everclear applications.
