Jamasyn,

Is that the Nikon 300mm f/2.8 AIS lens?
Did you prefocus? If not, how difficult is it to focus w/ that lens? The reason I am asking is that someone I know is trying to sell that lens. I tried it out but it felt awkward focusing. Maybe, I am jut need more practice w/ manual focus. But, that is an awesome lens though.

This is not the 300 f/2,8 AIS lens. I have the lens for about 7 years now and the
AF is not as fast as the S-lenses they sell now.
But for me it's still pretty fast and the shots i take are OK.

I did not prefocus fot the shot of the 3000 m steeple runner, the S2 was on single AF-mode and closest subject priority was "off".

The S2 preformed ok, the AF is not as fast as with the Nikon D1, but all
my images are sharp and verry well exposed.

I sometimes use manual focus, but that depends on the situation.

Maybe you need to practice a bit more with the lens, but in my opinion
it is an exellent and must have object.
The AIS-lens is even faster.

Feel free to ask me more on the subject.

janmasyn

Janmasyn,

If that's was not the 300 f2.8 AIS, then, which 300mm did you used? Very sharp and well exposed like you said.

Thanks,

Jan..

I wish I could afford that lens you have. I couldn't afford AFS 300 f/2.8 that's why I was looking at a used AIS 300 f/2.8(some guy here wants to sell it for $1000).

I am debating whether to wait and save the one I really want or just to get the manual version. My inclination is to wait until I save up enough for what I really want and not having to regret later. Two lens I am hoping to have by fall/2003 are:
- Nikkor AF-D 18-35mm f/2.8 (for landscape and general use)
- Nikkor 300 f/2.8 (for wildlife-I may have to settle for the manual version)

Hopefully I can offord them earlier.

Thanks,
The'
