I took my new camera out and took it for a small test drive at my friend's house today.

I had her bring a dog out and she kicked a ball around for the dog to catch. There really wasn't any agility stuff outside yet....so no agility shots...:~(

Anyway, this is just one of the images I got, I'm VERY happy with the results. YES, in camera sharpening was ON. I shot at ISO 400 RAW, 70-200VR & 1.4TC. The image has not had any adjustments in the conversion or in PS. I only sized it to post here, NOTHING else!

Hey Igor,
THANKS!

The shutter speed & Apr were 1/1600 f8

I was replicating the settings I use for agility photos. Actually the dog wasn't moving as fast as most of the dogs I shoot, but it was fun to catch the ball and dog in action, the foot was an extra!

The picture looks crisp. Sharp. I think the camera has alot of potential when it comes to shooting outdoor action shots. Nice pic HighISO! Can't wait until I get mine and that's soon, I hope! :)

Thanks to All!

I was converting other shots from yesterday last night, and I can't tell you how impressed I am with what I got. I only need a very small amount of post processing, and it's only my wanting to play, that makes me do it.

There have been a couple little blooming spots, but nothing to be worried about. I saw no chromatic aberration, but I was shooting in bright sun with nothing really for that to happen with.

I printed a shot of my friend's dog sitting behind the steering wheel of her car. The sun was filtering through on only one side of his face and the dashboard. I could see the texture on the dashboard & the texture of the dog's nose...even through a dirty window! Very minimal noise, which could have been the dirty car. :D

Photos of really muddy horses in an even muddier paddock also showed EVERY hair, and particle of dirt on the horses.

Ohhhh...one more thing about the dog shot. I shot him in group dynamic focusing and continous focus. I don't fill a buffer to capture my vision. The shutter release is sooooo very responsive it shoots before my brain even knows my finger has triggered it! I think I need another one of these as my back up camera. I don't know if my other cameras will be responsive enough anymore!

No ! You already have one camera! I still didn't get mine!
Glad to hear it's going great. Don't forget to share some those pics with us poor folks who are still waiting. :)

Yeah, Alissa. Give us poor and downtrodden a chance! I think all D2X owners should take a pledge to foreswear a second body till those of us with our noses still pressed against the window (lens?) get theirs. I'd be happy to provide suggested text!

I'm so happy for you! I'm glad you like it :)

I am NOT sold yet. I however am coming from a different spot, I already have two cameras that are pro bodies that shoot 8fps (D2h and Canon 1dmII) so this thing really needs to WOW me and while it's nice, it certainly hasn't done that yet. Nothing unusual blonde and not the typical consumer

Melody,
You are coming from a different place than I am at this point. When my S2 started to go south last summer I didn't want to (couldn't afford to) get the D2h, knowing Nikon was coming out with a newer upgraded digital. So I bought the D70, which I wasn't happy with at all, when I got it. I guess over 20,000 captures, I got used to it.

Now that I have gone to this body, I can see a HUGE difference in my images! I am confident that my customers & magazine editors will also see a great jump in quality, even from the S2 images.

I'll take it off your hands, if you don't want it anymore!

I know, I know, I'll wait until everyone get's their D2x before I get my next one! :D

First Igor, now Alissa. Can I be #3 on your list Mel?

And Alissa, I see in several of your threads that you shoot raw but with sharpening on. I assume that means you allow the as shot sharpening to stay with the conversion. Am I correct in assuming you think the D2x is so accurate that you don't need/want to sharpen in CS or with a plug-in? I guess that's more or less evident but evey pro tip I read regarding sharpeniong always suggests you not allow the camera to sharpen. Is there something different with D2x??

Alissa, I'd like to join Mike's question, I also find it strange you shoot RAW WITH sharpening... How can it be?
Please explain.

I don't know, it's a force of habit, I guess. :o I have been shooting that way since I got my S1 in 2000.

I like razor sharp images, with dogs moving so fast, and fur flying, I feel like it gives me a little boost in areas that I may have trouble getting sharpened in post processing. I only started shooting RAW at my last 2 outdoor trial last fall.

Once I get out again, and have more chances to play around, I may go to normal sharpness in RAW, or start shooting fine jps again, with sharpening on. When I'm playing around and switching back and forth, I know I'll forget to switch to sharpening when I go into jpg only mode. I will try to play around in an environment I can have control with...Not lighting, but when the dogs go, that way I can have time to figure out how I want to set up the camera. In a trial situation, I don't have time to play around. I barely have time to swap cards or batteries. Hmmmm ANOTHER reason to get another D2x...... :troutsmac

I ordered an Expodisc today. I'll get to try it in that nasty building next weekend! My husband is having fun with the camera too...he ordered the wireless transmitter, and he also got me the 85mm 1.4 lens. I didn't even ASK, and my birthday was last month!!!! :D

Really nice shot.
How could it be that a five thousand dollar Nikon body couldn't produce anything but high tech beauty?
If that thing isn't good enough it's going to take God himself to build one to please people I fear.
Enjoy your new cameral, it appears beautiful.
