I saw Hula was looking for a car charger for his Flashtrax. I didn't think about it until last night, but I got this combination wall/car/plane charger for my Treo 650 phone and all it really is is an adapter that provides USB power, so anything with a USB charging cable can work off it.
Check out the Versacharger from Boxwave.

I just tried it on my flashtrax and it works fine. I've also used it to power a few other devices without any problems. Handy little device for me since I have a lot of USB chargable devices.

What a very handy gizmo Thank you.
I use the an inverter however with extra lighters I can charge even more when I go down the road now
I have the battery chargers, the laptop and the flashtrak all going at times.

Interesting piece of kit Bryan,
I have a lot of power/battery issues with my flash trax 40g, if I don't take the battery off after downloading, (it goes flat in a week or so)
usb is fairly new to me only had it on the new PC & laptop I bought last year.
When I download (via usb from my flashtrax) to either machine I always use the mains power unit supplied, does this mean I do not need too, the usb chord will be charging the battery anyway?
Like Melody I also use an inverter, to charge up every thing while on the move, it would be handy to just be able to plug the flash trax in the ciggy lighter.

Andy,
You're correct. You do not need to use the mains/AC Adapter when downloading from the Flashtrax as it will pull power from the USB port. The AC Adapter that's included is only for charging (although, when plugged into the USB port with the AC Adapter plugged in, I don't know which it would pull from....).
I've also had the same experience with my batteries going dead over a small period of time when it's just sitting. My process is to charge the battery the day before going on a trip and it will usually serve me well. Just a pain that you have to do it like that, but that's what I do.

Many thanks for the info Bryan,
I'm on my third one in the past year, fortunatly it came with 2yr guarantee I was given a brand new swap one about three weeks ago. (I'd asked for a refund) This one certainly seems much better than the previous two. The buttons seem to be more positive (very quite click ) and the screen switches off well before the lid is shut.
They told me to take the battery off & turn it round when not in use :stupid: :( I would not mind if it was designed to do that and had a set of slots for the pins to go into instead a pointed wave shape that seems to totaly not fit & may damage the pins.
I had a soft transparent small print wallet which with just a snip here and there fits perfectly through the slot when the battery is disconnected and is almost instantly removed & the battery locked down when quickly needed much better system all the pins are just pushed down on the springs alittle while left in situ, after the past couple of weeks even after downloading 3 full 1 gig cards on different days (just testing while in my studio) it is still reading 60% full. Before when out shooting, I was never able to download more than two full 1gig cards, I had corrupted files, lock-ups, occassional 1/2 downloads that looked complete till play back, some images were not saved, so generally very dissapointing. So fingers crossed this one seems to be a better one.
Hope the above makes sense, been ill in bed for the last couple of days, will send pics tomorrow if need be :righton:
Cheers
Andy
