hi folks...
I removed all the batteries from the camera (aa's+c123's) and plugged in the AC cord...
but when i started shooting..the camera fires off but shows an "Err" message and image is not connect...
same happens when i shoot from the PC without any batteries..
is there something wrong that i'm doing here?
help!

Fuji told me to remove the 123s when shooting with the AC adapter but NOT the AAs.

I've shot with all the batteries out and AC Adapter plugged in with no problems.
The only time I've ever got the Err message is when my double AA's weren't seated right.
Possibly your AC Adapter is not putting out enough current or voltage to operate the camera fully. Just a thought.

could you tell me the "model" of your ac adaptor?
mine is "model: AC-5V" printed on the adaptor...perhaps i got the wrong one?

You could have an older model or a non US version of the power supply maybe. Not sure. Just pondering. Mine is a AC-5VH-see below. Compare the output of mine with yours. Does yours say DC5V 2A? The 2A (current) is the important one, other than it should be 5V of course. If you have a smaller number than 2A, then this could be a problem.

i think that's probably why...mine's the 1.5A....the australian models of the S2 doesn't come with the adaptor and i think the shop gave me the wrong one when i bought it separately..
i hope nothing has happened to my camera becuase of this...
will go down to the shop to return the adaptor first thing tommorrow..
thanks again for your help!

I have the AC-5VH adaptor (pg 112 of User guide) this is 5v at 2 amps and I get exactly the same problem. The adaptor powers the camera for downloading or viewing pictures on either the microdrive or Fuji Smartmedia 64mb Ok, but it will not allow me to record any pictures to either media. Everything works until after the shutter is pressed when Err (as on pg 115) occurs and nothing is recorded. Half pressing the shutter again clears the error and all functions work again except recording pictures. Very frustrating. i have tried it with all combinations of batteries but it doesn't work unless the 123s are in, but then these seem to overide the adaptor anyway.

Emailed Fuji UK regarding the power adaptor and they told me the only supply they recommend is AC-5VHS but they dont say why the 5VH wont work properly. Both are listed in the user guide!!!

Fuji UK exchanged my AC 5VH for a AC 5VHS version and this now powers all camera functions correctly! They don't know why this is.:)

Strange. Well, my VH works fine for me still, so I'll stick with it. Wonder why it works on mine and not yours though....

Hi you guys,
I've got the same problem as Steveuk. I just spoke to Fuji UK who say that the AC-5VH doesn't provide enough power for the S2. Well done Fuji!!!
They say there is another model on it's way. I wonder if they mean the AC-5VHS? I'll keep you posted after they've called me back in the morning.

OK, this is official from Fuji UK;
There are two Fuji AC adapters. There's the AC-5V and there's the AC-5V.
Yep, they've both got the same name but one is a "two piece" adapter and the other is a "one piece" adapter with the plug pins mounted on the actual adapter. I asked fuji if they've got a product code for the "one piece" adapter (so I can make sure I order the right one) and they said NO, I have to ask for the "one piece". Something smells very strange around here, I'm surprised there haven't been more posts about trying to shoot with the mains adapter.

Strange ,i got my AC-5VH with my finepix 6800, so when i bought the S2 i just thought i would work , and it has. but i only used it for C.C.D cleaning , It was'nt untill i read these threads about the problems, that i thought i'd do a really good test , no problems, AC-5VH works fine on my camera , with all the batterys out.

Strange people Fuji.
The correct one piece adaptor is the AC-5VHS which was sent to me boxed with that written all over it. I spoke to Martin Hulatt in sparesand he seems to know what he is talking about. I also tried my original AC-5VH in all combinations with and without other batteries in place and it did not work for shooting.
The only thing all this and other problems shown in this forum proves is that the power arrangements in the S2 are erratic and variable from one camera to the next! My serial number is in the 23L 06*** series, how does this relate to others who have and dont have this problem?

Hi steve
I've done a bit of re-testing, everything works using the AC-5VH. Except the flash , i suppose you still need the 123's for that?.My model is 2amp.and as i said it came originally with my 6800.
My S2 serial no is 24L.33***. There seems no logic behind this ,apart from the fact that like the focusing problems some people experienced, it's related to the manufacturing date. earlier models might have had a flaw,
Like to hear from fuji , if they did update the firmware on later models?. AH.... but would they tell us ? thats the question.

And I haven't had any problems with the 5VH with my S2 with the exception of the onboard flash. 24A32*** is my serial number. In fact, I was just taking pictures of the moon the other day with only the AC adapter and no batteries in.
I can accept that the flash doesn't work with the AC adapter though. I figure (as well as Fuji) that if you're using the AC adapter as a main power supply, then you're probably in the Studio with boxlights and off the camera flashes. Just a thought.

Got this image of you on your hands and knees under that tripod ,flashight in one hand (to see the A.C. socket) and cable in the other, all this as well as trying to focus on the moon, and cursing that dumb limey for suggesting shortning the legs .

You got that straight. And with the temp's out here exceeding 100 for the past week (103 degrees when I left work at 6pm last night!), it makes it very hard to shoot in shorts, on an asphalt road with the short legs. You betcha I'm cursing someone. :)
But it works much better for now, and, well, sometimes you gotta do things to get that shot....

23L04***
Does this mean I've got the oldest S2?
I wonder if I'm using a different (older) firmware. I guess I'll never find out.
Still waiting for the local wholesaler to get in a new adapter from Fuji UK.
Marvo.
