After using my G3 PowerBook and an old 7200, I just upgraded to an eMac. I did most of my processing and retouch work on the Powerbook and it was starting to get long in the tooth. I went for the eMac because I do mostly location work and don't have a huge office, so space is an issue and I wanted to be prudent with my dollars. It seems like an excellent value. So far so good. One of the things I will be able to experience first hand is OSX, as I only went as far as 9.2 in the PowerBook and 8.2 in the 7200 (which by the way is officially a "dead" computer). I think I can get friendly with OSX and I'm now among the folks waiting for Fuji to catch up.

I was wondering if anyone else is using the eMac, especially running Photoshop and the Fuji software, and if there are any issues specific to this set up. I can't imagine anything out of the ordinary, but you never know!

I am running an eMac and the one thing I can tell you is to get a Gig of RAM. BIG difference. Otherwise, Photoshop flies on this machine. I have used the Fuji Software, but you have be in classic or OS 9. I have had no problems so far( about 8 months).

I've loaded up up 640mb of ram, which is more than I have ever had, but I hear you. I may just put in another 512 and be done with it. Already I am impressed with the speed and I think the monitor is excellent as well. I went for the bottom of the line model because I already have a good CD burner and I don't need a DVD at this point. Also the slower speed isn't much of an issue to me and as I said before I had to be prudent. Besides the PowerBook is still in use for location work and needs me to spend dollars on it too. :-(

I am running the Fuji software in classic mode at the moment, but I am having an issue with the raw converter EX which gives me an error message when ever I try to use it, I'm investigating that now.

Thanks for the reply.

Hi, I am on an iBook (now) as I am travelling in Cape Cod for several weeks. At home/office I have a G4. I switch between system 9.2 and osX. I shoot ONLY in RAW and am finding the RAW file converter in Photoshop to be FAR better than anything else. I use the File browser to check them out.

Extensis just released a RAW file previewer for Portfolio which I use to catalog all my shots. I have downloaded the RAW file previewer but it won't install under 9.2 which I am currently running.

If you are using Portfolio 6 you can get the beta RAW previewer at:

enjoy,
