Hi Everyone,
I have the S2 frame numbering set to continues and have about 5000 actuation on it. i use a micro drive. yesterday i used my MD in a friends D70 without 1st formating it and took some shots. when i put the MD back in the S2, everything worked fine but my frame number jumped to 102-0001 meaning that i was now over the 10,000 shot mark  . i have since formated the card(FAT) using Xp and the S2 but the frame number is now under 102 folder.

Can anyone tell me what gives?

Have you tried to format it with the camera, because the D70 will store the photos under a folder.

This will happens quiet easily as the S2 will get confused with the D70 stuff (real basic explaination there).

To fix it. Format the card with the S2, take a shot with it. Pop the card into a card reader and rename the folder to 100 and rename the image number to what you want, say DSCF5001.JPG or what ever. Pop the card back into the camera and take another shot. Format the card.

This should reset the numbering. You have to be careful when using cards in other cameras. This happens to me all the time when I bounce cards between my two S2's and sometimes with my D70. have 4 1gb ultra cards and a 1gb regular Sandisk. I try and keep 2 for each S2 seperated and use the regular Sandisk in my D70 only.

Thanks for tip,

after formatting the card in the reader and renaming the folder, i can see the folder 100 on the S2s display; however as soon as another shot is taken folder 102 gets recreated. do i need to do the factory reset to make this work?

try this,
set S2 to renew, format your card, take shot, change it back to continues, connect it to pc rename your file, take another shot and vua-ola.
