I have tried many times to get some special effects with the built in and external SB-50DX, but to with no joy !!!!
When I switch the S2 to manual, open the flash, and try and do funny things like, over expose, or under expose etc. I always get perfect results. The camera always try and compensate to the best of its ability, even meaning flashing at MAX !!!
I have also tried the +-EV for flash, even when setting the S2 to
-3EV it still exposes corect everytime.
- I would like to see an extremely underexposed subject !

Can anyone please try the following, switch to manual, slowsync to 1/60, f22, take a picture indoors of any subject.
Try spot, centre, and matrix metering...
-I get a perfect exposure( the subject is obiously a concideration) many subjects.
- Also try to set the flash +-EV to -3.0 stops, again the camera flashes like lightning and exposes the subject perfectly.
(I WANTED TO SEE AN UNDEREXPOSED SUBJECT !!! )
- It seems as if the +-EV for the flash has little or no effect, but the +-EV for exposure surly seems to do more when I try the same without a flash !

Awaiting a responce.

I am not using that particular flash and have to use a flash modual to dedicate it. I have no problem controling my pops though. Whether it's my fill or my key light, I am in control. I can't understand why you would keep getting correct results. That's a good thing for most people though. :) Try altering your ASA's on your camera and flash. I use the Quantum T2d.

Love your style. Went to the site and I thought the pictures were brilliant.
I love shooting in daylight but got stuck doing studio shoots. You have inspired me to get back into daylight more.
Thanks

P.S. Were all those shots done on the S2?

Thanks so much! Yes they were all shot with the S2. I do shoot film too but for more of commercial applications. The first thing I ask is "what's the usage?" and that tells me how I shoot. But as fashion is concerned, I shoot primarily with the S2 and with a reflector and/or Quantum T2 digital flash along with the D12 modual to dedicate it.

Can I ask, do you get a incidet reading always one stop smaller than the one that you end up using in the studio. I take an incident reading with my flash meter in the studio with studio flash on manual and then have to open up exactly a stop to get correct exposure for every picture. just wondering if my camea noods adjusting or if they are all like that. Thanks

I just gave a lecture at the Dallas Camera Club and one of the members there was talking about how most of us shoot under the recommended ISO. For example, I shoot my 400 at 320, 200 at 160, 100 at 64 and how much more accurate that is. Well, Your digital sensor has the same error correction in it. Take a 18% gray card and fill your frame up with it. Take your exposures and I would go ahead and do your brackets in thirds. Keep track of which frames go with what. Then simply open it up in your software and go to levels. If it's not dead center, then find the exposure that is. It should be around 118. That is your new exposure compensation and will apply with everything. If your flash is giving you the problem, then do the same thing with the pop being your key light on the gray card. This again will give you a consistant exposure referrence for where you want to go. I would do the camera first then to your pops. From what this technical guru was saying, it's normal to be off as much as a stop. His was -.7 of a stop with his digital.
