The SB80DX works in all modes on the S3 including D.TTL , which is something that just never worked on the S2 i always had to put it on M, or program , now i can use aperture priority and TTL .

SB800 works great with the S3 but have just found out that the S3 is not ittl compatible.

I've just set both SB800's to wireless mode.
slipped the one onto the S3 and master mode setting vanishes only leaves the remote. although it works fine with a wired setup,

still love the sharpness subtle tonal quality I'm getting from my S3.
( although I do have a D2x on order ASAP but talking to Nikon today they will not be fore sale here in the UK till end of Feb.) need the extra speed for my wildlife studies. but I think the S3 will be great tool in my studio.

I have a couple of SB26's neither of which will work with the S3 - ebay here they come.

Hello Andy,

I have the SB28 which I know will only work on certain settings. I too am seeling this on Ebay although after two days no one's taken any interest! A pal of mine has the SB800 and he as you say he can prop it up on it's foot attachment and have it fire off in another part of the room, are you saying the S3 won't do this?

Steve

Unfortunately you're almost right,

The SB800 on camera or wired works absolutley flawlessly. with spot on exposures.

But unfortunately it does not seem to work on iTTL, the guns all fire but you have to check the image and adjust the different guns to get their exposures to balance in A mode not TTL

will be posting a couple of macro shots later

Cheers

Hi Everyone,

Have just bought an S3, which would be the better flash to use a SB80DX or a SB800DX i already own a SB80 but if i am going to get better results from a SB800,then that will have to be the next purchase.

Any suggestions would be helpfull.

Thanks Steve

My Quantum flash that I received free from Fuji as a rebate when buying the S3 works great! I have the 80DX and 800 which I use for closeups, but they can be fooled with TTL in bright backgrounds and distant dark backgrounds. I use auto with the quantum and it is dead on accurate!!!

William, welcome to the board.

Which Quantum flash unit do you have?

Thanks,
David

Ive just got an S3 thanks to Schreiber  and wondered which flash I should go for. My Cobra D650 doesn't seem to work at all with it and these are my choices. Metz 70MZ5, Metz 54MZ-4i or the nikon SB800.
I like the metz as they can be bounced and also have a small fill in front light.
Has anybody had any experience with these?
