Iv'e been hearing that the D2 is being discontinued this year. Anyone heard this rumour ? It would seem that people are pissed of that it's only 4mp and that Nikon screwed up now that Canon have their 1D MK2.
Is there any truth in this?

Yes, the rumor that the D2h is being discontinued is true. That's why the pricing on it dropped to under $2K.

A strange decision I must say. Me thinks they, Nikon must have realised their mistake. The other thing to bare in mind is with the New D2x one has the abillity to reduce the resolution by half to around 6mp, with that you can shoot a higher frame rate. Nice one. It makes the D2 totally redundant does it not!
Begs the question though why on earth spend the time and money developing the D2h in the first place!
As to pricing, we in rip off Britain still have to pay around the £2000 mark or approx $3500.
I'm still interested in the D2 though. Ive seen many a nice prints even with 4.1mp but I certainly wouldn't pay £2000 uk! I have my S2 which is still very capable in it's own right and yes the S3 might be just around the corner but I think it will be to similar to what I already have. I really want something different this time and thought the D2 would offer me that.

The D2h introduced the new body style and improvements in AF and other aspects of the camera, most of which are incorporated into the F6 and now the D2x.
Nikon really srewed up with the sensor though and making it 4mp was a huge mistake since its a nightmare for marketing purposes. Whoever made that desition is an idiot. :troutsmac Way before the D2h was introduced it was already quite evident that 6mp was becoming the minimum for pros. And the importance of a MP rating in marketing was established way before that. If they wouldve made it 6mp and with a tad better image qualities (say like a D70) the camera wouldve sold double and woudl still be selling at around full price ($3k).
