I have read the manual for my S2 and followed it to no avail. Can someone tell me the exact procedure for locking the mirror in order to clean it?
I've written documentation, and this one leaves a bit to be desired, agree?
Thanks.

I have cleaned my sensor a few times since last August.
The first time I did it with a new blower bulb, it was quite an ordeal. The second time, I used the same blower bulb and it seemed to spit out more gunk than it removed, requiring a third cleaning the next day. I disposed of the blower bulb and got some wipes and fluid made specifically for cleaning the sensor. When I clean the sensor, I wear a headlight - a flashlight I wear on my head. The dust is very hard to see, and it takes my eyes a minute to be able just to see the dust. What may be a big blob on your image may be a virtually invisible speck on the sensor.
Cleaning the sensor is a delicate expense required by the technology.
1) Turn the camera off.
2) Remove the CR123A batteries. The batteries discharge when left in while the AC adapter is being used. - I take out all the batteries.
3) Plug in the AC adapter to the camera and wall.
4) Flip the built-in flash down. Since the flash will not work without the CR123A batteries, you might only "confuse" the camera while the flash is up.
5) Take the lens off.
6) Set the exposure mode dial to M (manual exposure mode)
7) Set the release mode switch to S (single-frame "advance")
8) Press two buttons at the same time and turn the camera on. The two buttons to hold down are the Flash Syncro Mode button (lightning bolt on rear of camera, to the left of the veiwfinder), and the LCD Illumination button (to the right of the top LCD panel). Make sure you push the correct buttons. For example, it will not work if you push the Flash Exposure Compensation button near the shutter button - it too has a lightning bolt icon, and could be a source of unconscience confusion.
9) Press the shutter button and the mirror flips out of the way, and the shutter opens.
10) Clean the sensor.
11) Get your fingers and everything out of the hole.
12) Turn the camera off - the shutter will close and the mirror will flip down.
13) Shoot some test shots to make sure the sensor is clean.
14) Repeat above if required, otherwise - go shooting!
