View Full Version : Thumbnails creating software ?

Does anybody know/can point me/ about any software that can take the pics from a folder and group them onto , say A4 / legal size (with filenames for reference), so I could print these A4 sheets for clients to select shots for printing.
Currently I do it all manually: dowsize pics, take each individual thumb, position it on a A4 size image, title it with a file name... boring and takes a lot of time.
Any solutions?

Thanks!

ThumbsPlus or ACDsee work well.

Photoshop can do this very well, with the Contact Sheet option (File, Automate, Contact Sheet II).

I also have an old program, LView32, that does a good job of that. I'm not sure if that version is still available.

I'm sure that most good packages can do it - it's a common feature. You might want to search the help in your favorite program for Contact Sheet. You may be surprised.

Igor, if I remember correctly, you use Picture Publisher. I have an old version (v7), and it can do it with a wizard. (Image menu, then Wizards, then Contact Sheet Generator).

Thanks guys, I just didn't know this thing is called "Contact sheet" :stupid:
(I still can't understand why "contact" instead of "Thumbnails" ? )

Anyway PS action works fine with me, thanks again, you saved me a lot of time!

That's because you're too young to remember film Igor

In the old days of printing, a "contact sheet" was a simple 1:1 print of a strip of negatives to give you an idea of what was on each. The negatives were put into "contact" with the paper and exposed to light to create the image.

But then, when it's a computer problem I have to ask my 5th grade daughter for help!!

Hey, I did it myself too (about 20 years ago) :)

I use a simple and effective little program called Pics Print that can be found at:

http://www.picsprint.com

It is cheap and it will print multiple pictures on a sheet with the file names below each picture. It also prints thumbnails but my clients like the pictures a little larger than thumbnail sized. Especially if they have older eyes. You can also download a 30 day free trial version and give it a try. I am not kidding, this software rocks. It does one thing and does it better than any other program that I have ever used. It is also great when you want to print family pictures to give to relatives that do not have computers or like to keep scrap books.

Under File menu:
Create contact sheet from selected Thumbs

lots of other functions also, very fast.
